Asian Paints WoodTech Touchwood Interior 1K PU is a single-component, polyurethane-modified clear coating for interior timber. Unlike multi-pack finishes, there is no hardener to mix, which keeps brush application simple. It is self-sealing: the same liquid works as the pore-sealing undercoat and the decorative topcoat, so you don't need a separate sanding sealer. It leaves a tough film that outperforms traditional French polish and flows smoothly, levelling out brush marks. It is for interior use only — it has no UV blockers, so it is not for exterior doors, balconies or gates.
Key Features
- Self-Sealing: Cuts material cost and working time by removing the separate undercoat step
- Hard, Scratch-Resistant Film: A durable barrier against everyday wear, with a mirror-like high gloss that brings out the wood grain
- Easy to Apply: Smooth levelling, by rag, brush or spray

1) What makes Touchwood 1K PU different from a 2K PU wood finish?
Touchwood is a 1K (single-pack) system. It comes ready in one can and dries without an external hardener, whereas a 2K PU needs a base and hardener combined accurately just before use. A 2K system can give a harder finish, but Touchwood 1K PU is favoured for simpler preparation, lower cost and easier brush application.
2) Do I need a separate wood primer or sanding sealer?
No, it is self-sealing. Thin the first layer a little more with Mineral Turpentine Oil (MTO) so it works as a pore-sealing basecoat on raw wood. Once it is dry and lightly sanded, the following layers, lightly thinned or undiluted, act as the final decorative topcoat.
3) Can I apply it over wood that has been stained or pigmented?
Generally yes, once the stain or pigment layer, such as a spirit dye or an earth pigment powder, has dried and cured fully. Let the stain sit for a few hours before brushing Touchwood over it, so the brush doesn't pull or smear the colour, and test on a small area first if you haven't used the combination before.
4) How long before I can sand or recoat?
The surface is dry in about 60 minutes and tack-free in about 4 hours, but the finish needs a strict 16 hours (or a full overnight window) to cure before sanding with emery paper or applying the next coat. Sanding or recoating at about 6 hours pulls the soft lower layer, tearing it or causing micro-wrinkling.
5) What can I use to thin it?
Only Mineral Turpentine Oil (MTO): 10–15% by volume for brush or rag, and no more than 20–25% for spray, which stops the spray tip clogging. NC thinner, petrol or generic reducing thinners break down the polyurethane resins and turn the coating cloudy and unusable.
6) Can I use it on exterior doors, balconies or gates?
No. This is the interior version and has no UV blockers. On exposed outdoor wood it will oxidise, micro-crack and yellow within 3 to 6 months. Use it on interior wood only.
