Asian Paints TruCare Knifing Paste Filler (KPF) is a ready-to-use, solvent-based paste for patching and levelling minor dents, holes and surface imperfections on raw or primed wood and metal. It cures to a rigid, flat base for enamel topcoats. It is for wood and metal only: it is not a wall putty, and it must go over solvent-based primers, never water-based ones. Always build it up in thin layers, because one thick pocket traps solvent and leaves a soft, gummy core that wrinkles under the topcoat.
Key Features
- Ready-to-Use Paste: A uniform, butter-like consistency straight from the tub for drag-free knifing
- Cuts and Sands Easily: Dries to a crisp layer that sands flush with water emery paper without chipping
- Hard Dry Cure: Cures through its depth to fill dents and gaps with a rigid base

Step-by-Step Application Process
- Sand and Clean: Rub the wood or metal with grit 180 emery paper to remove rust, flaking paint, scale and grease, then wipe off loose particles
- Prime: Apply a solvent-based primer — TruCare Wood Primer for timber, or TruCare Red Oxide Primer for mild steel — and let it dry for 6–12 hours depending on the primer. Never use a water-based primer under this filler
- Fill: Knife a thin layer of the filler into the dent or hole with a flexible steel putty knife. Fill deep cavities in several thin layers, not one thick chunk
- Dry and Sand: Let each layer set for 4 to 6 hours, then smooth the patch flush with water emery paper, grit 180, and wipe off the dust
- Seal and Paint: Spot-coat the filled area with the same wood or metal primer, let it dry completely, scuff lightly with grit 320 paper, then apply your enamel paint
Safety: this contains volatile solvents, so keep the area well ventilated and wear a dust mask while sanding. Store the tub upright with the lid tightly closed, in a cool, shaded place away from flames, sparks and heat.

1) Can I apply it directly to bare, unprimed metal or wood?
No. Apply a compatible solvent-based wood or metal undercoat primer first. Applying it straight onto bare surfaces badly weakens adhesion and can cause blistering.
2) Can I use it on walls or over a water-based primer?
No. It is a solvent-based filler for dents on wood and metal only, and it is chemically incompatible with water-thinnable wall emulsions and primers. Over a water-based primer it loses adhesion. For cement or masonry walls, use an acrylic or cement-based wall putty.
3) What can I use to thin it if it feels too thick?
Only Mineral Turpentine Oil (MTO), and no more than 0–5%, and only if you really need to adjust the viscosity. Water or lacquer thinners will curdle the paste immediately.
4) Why is my filler cracking or staying soft inside deep holes?
Because it was packed into a deep hole in one thick layer. The solvent evaporates unevenly and the filler shrinks, or its core stays soft and gummy and wrinkles under the topcoat. Fill deep dents in several thin layers, allowing 4–6 hours of drying between layers.
5) When can I sand it, and with what?
Let it cure for 4 to 6 hours, then sand flush with water emery paper, grit 180. After spot-priming, scuff lightly with grit 320 before the enamel.
6) How long does it keep?
Two years in the factory-sealed tub. Once opened, keep the lid tightly closed and store it upright in a cool, shaded place away from flames, sparks and heat.
