1) What is the difference between thinner and turpentine?

Natural turpentine is a solvent from pine trees, while thinners are usually petroleum-based. WoodTech General Purpose Thinner is a premium mineral turpentine oil (MTO), which gives good paint flow and works with oil-based products.

2) Can I use it with water-based paints?

No. An oil-based thinner is incompatible with water-based emulsions and acrylics, and using it makes the paint separate and fail. Thin those with clean water.

3) Can I use it with WoodTech PU or lacquers?

No. Two-pack PU systems like WoodTech PU Interior and Exterior need the high-purity WoodTech PU Thinner for proper cross-linking. Adding ordinary mineral turpentine oil makes the polymer resin curdle, split or turn cloudy and ruins the paint. It is also not for NC lacquers. Use it only with synthetic enamels, wood stains, oil-based undercoats and single-pack varnishes.

4) How much thinner should I add to paint?

Typically 10–20% by volume, which is 100–200 ml per litre of paint. Add it gradually while stirring continuously, and test the paint first. Over-thinning reduces coverage, durability and colour intensity.

5) Can I use it to clean oil-based paint from brushes?

Yes. Soak the brush in thinner, work the bristles to release the paint, rinse with clean thinner, then wash with soap and water. Dispose of used thinner properly.

6) Is the thinner flammable?

Yes, highly flammable. Store it in a cool, dry place away from heat, open flames and sparks, work in a well-ventilated area, keep it away from children, and never smoke while using it. Follow the safety precautions on the label.
